FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Think recreational sports, but with improvised comedy. Players create scenes on the spot, take on challenges, and compete for audience votes, all while building skills and having a good time.

Nope! Sign up solo and we’ll find you a team (or register with a full team of 4 for a slight discount).

Registration closes before the first league night so we can form teams, but you can still sign up as a sub on the registration page! If a player needs to miss a week, we may call on you to fill in.

Nope! Improv involves listening, timing, teamwork, and going with the flow. You’ll learn and practice those skills during league nights. Figuring it out together is part of the fun!

Absolutely! IRL welcomes all personalities and comfort levels. You’ll have teammates to support you as you try things out and find your groove.

Teams face off in matches featuring improvised scenes and challenges. Audience votes determine the winners. Check out our “How it Works” page for the full rundown!

It varies by season depending on how many players are signed up. Season 4 has two matches per league night, each lasting approximately 90 minutes. Players and audience members are welcome to stay for either match or both (one audience ticket covers both matches).

Your team can suggest a sub, or we can help find one from our substitute list (subject to availability). Give us as much notice as you can!

Studies have shown that improv can improve creative thinking, increase your comfort with uncertainty, and boost your mood. Participation has also been linked with increased confidence, comfort performing, willingness to make mistakes, and reduced social anxiety.

Improv also gives you regular opportunities to practice active listening, clear communication, reading the room, generating new ideas, and building on other people’s ideas – skills that are useful in many different areas of life off stage.

And at IRL, you get to do all of that while meeting new people and having a laugh. You don’t need to arrive confident or quick-witted – there’s always room to learn as you go.
